Another away tie this week, this time The AFC trophy 1st Round against Glentaner Reflex.
We started the game the better of the two teams but kept being caught offside as Glentaner were playing a really high line.
On 20 minutes, Derek Yeats had thought he finally managed to beat the offside trap as he ran through on goal. However the referee blew and gave the offside, which felt very harsh as he looked at least 4 yards on.
The opening goal came on 25 minutes. Tony Miller fouled 23 yards out which resulted in a well worked free kick. Michael Frost with a superb ball to Derek Yeats who just had to nod it into the path of Dean Brady, he took a touch and slotted past the keeper 1-0
The second game 5 minutes later, Frost with yet another pin point free kick, from the edge of the box, to Derek Yeats at the back post who took it past a defender and fired high past the keeper leaving him with no chance 2-0
It should have been 3 and game over but the ball came to Mitchell too fast and he could not react quickly enough to tap it in instead putting it over the bar from 10 yards.
Minutes before half time Glentaner almost pulled a goal back. But Derek McKenzie somehow managed to tip the ball away and Simmers cleared up the pitch.
Half Time (2-0)
Ten minutes into the second half it was game over, Tony Miller with a brilliant corner into the box saw Matthew Murray rise highest and nodded past the keeper for his first ever goal in a Rattrays shirt in what was only his second game 3-0
Derek McKenzie made another superb save on the hour mark, turning a nice hit free kick round the post and out for a corner.
Immediately after the corner, we made sure there would be no comeback from Glentaner, Derek Yeats bombed down the right and squared the ball to substitute Kris Singer who could not miss and fired past the keeper, which was also Singer’s first goal in a Rattrays shirt 4-0
The chances were coming thick and fast as Glentaner looked like they had just gave up. On 75 minutes David Minett ran through on goal and with only the keeper to beat, he unselfishly passed to Lewis Fraser. However he could not tap it in and hit it straight at the keeper’s feet.
Lewis Fraser Had a chance to redeem himself 10 minutes later, Frost made a blistering run to keep the ball in and cut it back to Lewis but his shot came back of the post to remain 4-0
On another day this could have easily been seven or eight but into the next round none the less where will play Premier League side AC Mill Inn.
Full Time (4-0)
