Rattrays travelled to Oldmeldrum looking for their first win of the season against Formartine United in the White Cup.
We should have taken the lead in the opening 10 minutes when Marty Bain found himself through one on one with the keeper. However his chip shot went agonisingly wide.
Minutes later Marty had another glorious chance to score the opening goal. Chris Smith with a great run down the wing found Marty in the box but his shot across the keeper clipped the post and out for a goal kick.
Persistence paid off and we finally got the first goal of the game. A long throw into the box from Chris Mackintosh found Ewen Morgan who nodded the ball over the top of the keeper 1-0
Ten minutes before half time it was almost two, Marty’s cross deflected off a defender and looked like going in but it came off the inside of the post and Formartine cleared their lines.
Half time (1-0)
Within minutes of the re-start Kris Singer made a great run down the left and squared the ball to Marty who was unmarked in the box. However could not finish and it remained 1-0
Michael Frost then found himself with loads of space and drove into the box, but with only the keeper to beat his shot went over the bar.
Formartine found themselves back in the game with an equalizer ten minutes from time after rare mistake from ever consistent Shaun Matheson. He had left the ball to go through to keeper Dek McKenzie unaware that there was a striker behind him, who fired past Dek 1-1
With the game looking like heading for extra time, Michael Frost popped up with a late winner. MOTM Ewen Morgan with a great through ball and Frost fired into the net leaving the keeper with no chance.
Full Time (2-1)
