Rattrays gave up home advantage in yet another cup as we faced tough Premier League opposition Ellon Amateurs in the AFC Trophy.
Both teams started well with Ellon maybe being the slightly better team, but nothing to really trouble either keeper.
Ellon did have the ball in the back of the net but it was rightly disallowed as it had gone straight in from a throw in.
With 30 minutes gone there was still nothing to separate the sides until a corner was whipped in and their striker found himself unmarked in the box, who scored with a header 0-1
Ellon should have had a second just before half time but Derek McKenzie pulled off 2 quick reaction, world class saves.
Half Time (0-1)
Rattrays came out the second half fighting and was well on top as we pushed for an equalizer.
However with 10 minutes gone Shaun Matheson miss timed a tackle and gave away a penalty. Ellon’s striker stepped up and put Derek the wrong way for 0-2
Rattrays almost pulled a goal back when substitute Jamie Dunn’s strike from inside the box was superbly saved to deny him on his debut.
Rattrays were then reduced to 10 men when Terry Johnston was sent off for a harsh second bookable offence.
Being down to 10 men and 2-0 down the boys never gave up as they tried to get something out of the game, Shaun Matheson was also superb in defence as Ellon looked to get a third.
With 5 minutes to go Rattrays got a 2nd player sent off when Stephen Strachan also received a second yellow.
Full Time (0-2)
With all cup competitions now out of the way Rattrays can now concentrate on trying to win the league and gaining promotion back into the 1st division.
