Rattray’s met Westdyce for the 3rd time this season looking to avenge our defeat from the league cup semi-final.
Both teams started well with Rattrays maybe having the better chances, Craig George played a superb ball to Scott Dunbar but his shot from just inside the box was turned round the post.
With 10 minutes gone Michael Frost found himself through on goal, but again the keeper saved superbly to deny Rattrays the opener.
Totally against the run of play Westdyce took the lead on 15 minutes, a mistake from the Ratts defence allowed their striker trough on goal and he calmly slotted past Dek McKenzie 0-1
The heads never went down and straight from the off we put Westdyce on the back foot.
Craig George should have levelled the scoring, but his shot from 10 yards came back of the crossbar as Westdyce had failed to clear their lines.
2 minutes later the equalizer deservingly came, Craig laid the ball off to Scott Dunbar who made no mistake as he bulleted his shot across the keeper 1-1
Westdyce might have went in at half time with the lead but their strikers free header from inside the box was superbly saved by Derek McKenzie’s feet.
Half Time (1-1)
Westdyce started the 2nd half the better of the two teams, but never created any real clear cut chances to trouble Dek.
With 20 minutes to go Rattrays stepped up a gear to try finding the winner. Craig was though on goal and as he slid in his shot went inches past the post.
Dean Brady then also found himself through one on one, but his shot was straight at the keeper and out for a corner.
Rattrays could smell blood and you could sense there was a goal was coming. A superb corner was whipped in from Terry Johnston but Chris Smiths shot could not be cleared and up popped Ewen Morgan at the back post to score his first ever goal for the club 2-1
With minutes remaining Rattrays ran down the clock superbly to hold on for a well-deserved 3 points.
Full Time (2-1)
